IUP DEE

IUP DEE successfully organised the “Academic Recharging for Faculty Members” with a speaker Dr. Nunung Nurul Hidayah, Senior Lecturer of Department of Accounting – Aston University, UK. It was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in the 1st floor meeting room of the Faculty of Economics at 14:00 PM. It is an effort from the Department of Economic Education to improve the quality of resources in meeting the global demands. Therefore, the IUP DEE invited Dr. Nunung Nurul Hidayah moderated by Raeni, S.Pd., M.Sc. to share her experience related to Qualitative Research and Publication. The event was packed through an interactive discussion was attended by about 38 lecturers of Economic Education and representatives from Accounting, Development Economics and Management Department.

Dr. Ade Rustiana, as Chairman of the Department of Economic Education very welcomed this agenda. He said that he appreciated with the IUP DEE effort to always put quality as a priority. Meanwhile, Sandy Arief, S.Pd., M.Sc as an Executive Chairman of IUP DEE in the opening remarks said that IUP DEE is trying to engage collaborative works throughout faculty, staffs, and students to sustain a passion for excellence. This Academic Recharging with Aston University is one of the ways to produce leading-edge research with global impact, he added.

In this session, Dr. Nurul explained on how to conduct a good research which not only would be published in internationally reputable journals, but also would contribute to human life. She emphasized that one of essential points in publication, is understanding the state of the art behind a journal. Each journal has different types and scopes. Therefore, the researcher need to set a target of the journal that will be published as well as their target readers. Furthermore, he asserted that the choice of method, either qualitative, quantitative or mixed method, is highly dependent on researcher’s epistemological perspectives. Furthermore, she added that all methods have the same opportunity to be published.

The former scholar of Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI-IDB), also explained on how a qualitative research provides meanings for social interaction and how research can provide solutions to problems. She embraced one of the philosophies (Albert Einstein) that “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted, counts.

In addition to the dialogue, she told us her experience as a lecturer in England. Almost every week, she attended academic discussions in the development of lecturer competence. “We did a discussion in an informal way between a research group which it is quite frequent. From those session, we collaborated to develop research in accordance with our research interest “. This attractive discussion received a positive response from the participants.
